Need to know where to turn for information or services? Don’t be bashful—there are plenty of resources in Ulster County to help out every young person. Whether you need a driver’s license, counseling about personal struggles, or a place to stay when things aren’t working out at home, there’s help available in these pages. Don’t be afraid to contact any resource, and when you do, state your situation clearly in order to be directed to someone who can help you. Ask as many questions as you need, and ask for clarification if you don’t understand something. And remember: the squeaky wheel gets the oil first!
Abuse and Violence

· Child abuse does not only include beating or hitting a child; it also includes neglect, emotional abuse, malnutrition, lack of medical care, and more.
· Teen relationship violence is more widespread than most people believe—up to 28% of teens in relationships experience violence.
· If you are the victim of sexual violence or abuse, you have the right to a confidential medical exam (no parental permission needed nor parental notice given) by a nurse at Benedictine Hospital through the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program.

· Remember: if you experience a medical emergency due to ingesting illegal drugs, you should call 911 immediately. You cannot get in legal trouble for drugs that are already in your body; it is the possession of drugs that is the crime.
